Travel Coaches InformationA PDF of "Important information for MLSA Coaches" is available by clicking this link. What is Travel Soccer?Travel soccer offers a more competitive level of soccer than Lebo Cup. Travel soccer starts at the U10 age level, normally 4th grade, and can continue through high school. MLSA Travel teams are open only to Mt. Lebanon residents. The rules governing travel soccer and the leagues in which MLSA travel teams play are established by PAWest. It is important to note that although travel soccer is competitive, PAWest does not award league championships. Both MLSA and PAWest believe that the emphasis in travel soccer should be on developing the players. If the players are properly developed the teams will be successful. Travel soccer is a full year’s commitment. Travel teams generally play teams from other communities in southwestern PA. Teams play both fall and spring seasons, typically 8 Sunday afternoons per season. The fall season generally starts at the end of August and continues through the first week of November. The spring season generally starts at the end of March and continues through June. Teams have evening practices twice a week in the fall and once a week in the spring. Selection to a travel team occurs through a competitive process involving a tryout. Not all players who try out will be offered a place on a team. MLSA travel teams are newly formed every year. All players wishing to play travel soccer must tryout every year. Playing on a travel team does not guarantee a player a roster spot for the following year. Tryouts for travel teams normally occur in May for the upcoming fall/spring seasons. The exact dates and more detailed information about the tryouts will be posted on this website in March. Players will be notified whether they are being offered a roster spot by the end of June. Travel DirectionsDirections to Travel Fields | MLSA organizes and conducts programs of education and competition in the sport of amateur soccer. Its goals are to promote and elevate the standards of sportsmanship and fair play among the youth of our community; to provide an opportunity for all participants to develop and improve their athletic skills; and to promote the sport of soccer in a spirit of cooperation with other community activities. |
