Boys U9 Academy

Do you have a son born in 2012?

Join the MLSA’s U9 Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Academy!

This program is designed to develop young players in a positive, supportive and challenging atmosphere that will emphasize age-appropriate technical development and prepare them to play the 7v7 game, whether it be recreational or more competitive play.

FALL (September - October)

  • Players will be grouped by developmental level to learn:
    1. Technical soccer skills and technique
    2. Rules of the game as played by USSF
    3. Formation
    4. Team play
  • Practices:Two – one hour practices a week with our professional UK Trainers and volunteer parent coaches to develop soccer skill and technique via fun activities/games and learn to play 7v7.
    • Dates and Times: Tuesday and Thursday, 5:45-6:45 at Wildcat Field on Cedar Blvd. Please drop your player off at the batting cage end of the field, the gravel parking lot.

  • Games:Players will play 7v7 games on Sunday in-house (in Mt Lebanon only) with “instructional referees” who will teach the rules while reinforcing them throughout the game.
    • Date and Time:1:45-2:45 at Wildcat Field

SPRING (April-May)

Not every player will be developmentally ready for U9 PA West League play in the spring. We do not want to place players into the PA West League before they are ready. The U10 Academy Director will work with the Fall U9 Academy professional trainers to make the determination on what spring program is best for each Academy player and will communicate with all parents during the winter.

  • Players that are developmentally ready to join the Travel League will be placed on teams that will have 2 – one hour practices a week - one with our professional UK Trainers and one with their team coach. They will play 7v7 games on Sundays in a PA West league against other clubs from Western PA (mostly Pittsburgh area).
  • Players who are not yet ready for the PA West League will continue their development in the MLSA Spring Development Program (SDP) with our professional trainers. Then, in May, they can try out for the following year's U10 Travel Teams or, in fall, play in the Lebo Cup Rec League, both of which will be 7v7.

Equipment to Bring: A size 4 ball, water bottle, shin guards and soccer shoes suitable for the turf (cleats are fine).
