TOPSoccer

The Outreach Program for Soccer

Since 1996, the Mt. Lebanon Soccer Association has sponsored a TOPSoccer Program. TOPSoccer is a national outreach soccer program for children with disabilities. Children from many South Hills Communities participate. Disabilities range from mild mental retardation to autism, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. Most of the participants have motor and coordination difficulties. Several use adaptive devices to ambulate.

In addition to learning and playing soccer, the program promotes physical exercise, social interaction and positive self-esteem.

TOPSoccer is organized by volunteers from the Mt. Lebanon Soccer Association and supported by teenage volunteers from our community. Every player has a "Soccer Buddy" to assist them on the field. These teens have been the driving force in TOPSoccer and they have developed positive relationships with the players. The TOPSoccer program has been a win-win experience for players and buddies!
